Amaranthine is a beautiful synonym for “timeless”. With roots in the Greek and Latin languages, it means “unfading”. Other synonyms include enduring, eternal, ageless and everlasting. For something to be timeless, it must “not be restricted to a particular time or date”.
I believe that timelessness requires the embracement of truth and integrity in design, the rejection of trend and popularity, and the acceptance of restraint. Restraint offers the freedom to remove excess and focus on the fundamental ways in which we live: in our lives, in our homes and in our relationships. So the concept of “timeless living” is one in which there is no rule of thumb, there is no defined style, and there is no posturing. It is an attention to detail that allows our home to reflect who we are and what we do. It is the proposition that less can be more and that living our lives requires a soft place to land. In a place where we raise our families, welcome our friends and lay our heads, how our home functions means just as much as how it looks. As you can tell, timelessness is a difficult concept to pin down.
This blog is a space for me, and for us, to try to define timeless living for ourselves. And by that I mean how we design our homes, feed our families, welcome our guests, share our passions and live our lives.
I can’t wait to get started!
(And forgive me, the design of this blog is a work-in-progress!)
